あるとき、社内レイアウトの変更の為に不用品の整理をしていたら「電源の入ってない冷蔵庫」を発見した。その扉を開くと、カビの胞子なのか何なのか、中からもわぁっと黒い粒子が飛び出してきたので「うわぁっ」と思ってすぐ扉を閉じ、「こりゃぁ、もう使えないな」と思って社長（堀江さん）に稟議書を出したのだ。

冷蔵庫処分費　6,000円

その稟議は「もったいない。まだ使えるでしょ」の一言で却下された。「いやぁ～、ありゃ絶対もう使えないよ」と内心思いつつ、改めて冷蔵庫の扉を開くと、強烈な異臭と何やら黒いドロドロしたものがあちこちに散在していて、異様な空気を放っていたので、面倒臭がり屋の私はしばらくほっておくことにした。

ところが、翌朝出社してみると社長が冷蔵庫を開けて素手でその「異様な黒い物体」を取り除いているではないか。そばでゴミ袋を持つ社員も臭そうに顔を背けながら、いやいや傍に居る感じだったが、社長にそんなことはさせられないと考えて、「すみません、私が代わります」と役を交代。数時間かけて異物を取り除き、冷蔵庫内を（まだ匂いは残っていたが）白くなるまで掃除して、再び使える状態にまで戻してから社長に報告に行った。

「社長、冷蔵庫なんとか使える状態にまで戻しました。」

「なぁ、6,000円の利益を稼ぐのって大変だろう？」

そのときに言われた一言は、今でも強く印象に残っている。
